I’m afraid not – we were too hungry to wait for a photo. To be honest, the food didn’t look as good as it tasted, but it really didn’t need to. The area around our hotel was definitely affluent. We saw a lot of embassies and residences like the ones in the last few photos, which are definitely not representative of the average housing.

Haha, yes, I’m using iMovie and its stabilisation works well sometimes but can’t really be used if the camera is moving because it starts to warp the background. Also, because I wasn’t able to see the camera’s viewfinder I had to film zoomed out and then try to zoom in post-processing, which exaggerates the shakiness. There’s a whole new world of problems to watch out for in video!

i think you need to find better spots with crystal clear waters like sipadan or cebu. even samui’s clearer than krabi.

I know, every time I come back from a new city or country I wish I’d taken more “everyday atmosphere” pictures to convey what it’s like to walk around there, but when I’m actually there I feel too self-conscious pulling out my camera at food stalls, cafes, street markets and so on. I know what you mean about the colour cast, but after processing it away the photos just didn’t look true to the way the water looked while we were swimming, so I decided to leave it. Many of the photos I post here would look “better” with more saturation or other processing, but I’ve decided that in most cases I want to show the scenes as I remember them, at least as far as my Lightroom skill will allow :)

It’s known locally as “James Bond Island”; we didn’t visit it, but it’s not very far from where we were. You can take a day trip from Ao Nang, and also from Phuket. But sadly it’s no longer acceptable for white men to dress up as Japanese.

Looks great! We just got back from Cuba – also excellent beaches and diving – to add to the comments on underwater photos we have an olympus U (mu)-tough. Little point and shoot but it takes great photos in and out of the water to 10m.

i thought so too but somedays you just want to carry around a compact. these little buggers pack quite a punch even for semi-serious photography, casual outings or just daily snaps.

the ones i got do look like a beefed up ziplock bag with molded plastics with screws and a tube with a clear glass. very dodgy looking. but after trying it in a tub of water with a piece of paper for like an hour, turns out ok.

you are missing some interesting photo/video opportunity during snorkeling. i got myself a temp soft shell water housing for my point-n-shoot, works ok, but bobbing on the surface with the cam rocking a bit in the housing makes shitty pictures/videos.

you can now get pretty damn good dunk proof point n shoot at affordable prices, like these:

I don’t think any drains could have kept up with the rain that was failing at the time! But it all cleared reasonably quickly, although as I look out now there’s still a little “snow” on the rooftop opposite my balcony :)

It was loud enough on my balcony – I’m glad I wasn’t in a car! Most of the flooding has gone from my intersection, but I know there are much worse intersections around town, so I hope they clear quickly too.

Your posts make me miss Laos even more! I’m glad to find someone who shares the same experience of staying in Rivertime Resort. We were told that we were the only guests in Rivertime Resort during our stay there. So we thought Rivertime Resort probably not that popular. I like your pictures of the little wildlife, perhaps I should have spent more time in observing and appreciating the nature of Laos.

This is a really well put together site. The insect photographs are very good, too. Well done!

Thanks for the kind comments about our resort and the food in our restaurant. The most recent review on Trip Advisor mentioned that our cutlery was rusty. We immediately went to check and found there were tiny, almost invisible, black spots on about 1 in 100 cutlery pieces, so we removed those pieces. However, just this one negative comment in an otherwise positive review resulted in an immediate and sharp drop off in our reservations (who would want to eat with rusty cutlery?) since it seems most people only read the latest review.

Since you seem to have gotten a lot out of your stay at Rivertime, I wonder if you might be so kind as to post any positive comments you may have on Trip Advisor.
